SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage used to reinforce a 100mm steel pipe which had undergone a leak repair after developing a 3mm pinhole

Watch: How to reinforce a pipe with a SylWrap Pipe Repair Bandage

A SylWrap Pipe Repair Bandage is used to strengthen and protect weakened pipes or to reinforce leak repairs made with a primary sealant such as Wrap & Seal Pipe Burst Tape or Superfast Epoxy Putty.

Wearing gloves, the Bandage is removed from the pouch. It should be used immediately once opened to avoid premature curing. Only open SylWrap when you are ready to make the repair.

The Bandage is dipped into water and gently squeezed. This activates the resin within the Bandage, starting a reaction that will cause the wrap to cure into a rock-hard material.

Once wetted, SylWrap is removed from the water and tightly wrapped over the area requiring reinforcement. The bandage is extended by 50mm either side of the damage to ensure complete coverage.

Whilst wrapping, each layer is tightly pulled, squeezed and moulded into shape in the direction of the wrap. More water can be applied to the Bandage to help smooth it and prevent the gloves from sticking as the application continues.

For best results, SylWrap should be approximately 10 layers in thickness. The Bandage will harden in around 10 minutes depending on temperature, forming an impact resistant layer of protection around pipes and structures.

Bandages can be purchased separately when used for reinforcement or as part of a SylWrap Pipe Repair Kit when fixing leaking or burst pipes. The Kit also contains Superfast Epoxy and Wrap & Seal Pipe Burst Tape, providing all the products needed to make a permanent live leak repair.

For regular pipe repair users, Sylmasta have developed the SylWrap Contractor Case. Each Case comes with enough Wrap & Seal, SylWrap Bandage and Superfast Epoxy Putty to make up to six live leak repairs.

A Case can be easily stored on-site or on the van, equipping engineers with the products to make an emergency pipe repair as soon as problems are identified.

SylWrap Bandage is WRAS approved, meaning it has been certified as safe to use on pipes and fittings carrying drinking water to British Standards.

The above video was filmed during testing at Sylmasta HQ in the United Kingdom. A 3mm pinhole in a 100mm stainless steel pipe had already been sealed with Wrap & Seal before reinforcement with SylWrap.
