SylWrap Pipe Repair Videos

The following videos show SylWrap Leak Repair Kits and products from the SylWrap Pipe Refurbishment System in action both in the field and during testing at Sylmasta HQ.

SylWrap Leak Repair Kits enable any user to make a permanent live leak pipe repair in under 30 minutes by following a simple two-stage process. Repairs are effective on pipes of all sizes and diameters and around complex shapes, including elbows, tees and step joints.

Most SylWrap Leak Repair Kits have WRAS Approval, meaning they are certified as safe to use on pipes and fittings carrying drinking water. Repairs can be built to withstand up to 30 bar pressure and are temperature resistant to 200ยบC.

Away from leak repair, the SylWrap Pipe Refurbishment System (SPRS) strengthens, rebuilds and protects worn and degraded pipelines. Refurbishing pipes and structures before they fail avoids more costly repairs further down the line.

Repairs using the SPRS can also be designed to conform to ASME PCC-2. This is an important standard for the repair of in-service pressure-retaining equipment and piping in industries where high pressure systems and hazardous pipe content are present.

SylWrap HD is applied to a steel pipe under 6 bar pressure as part of a demonstration showing how to fix a leaking pipe with a SylWrap Pipe Repair Kit

High Pressure Live Leak Steel Pipe Repair

Sylmasta demonstrate a SylWrap live leak repair at a water company in the United Kingdom.

A split was cut into a 150mm steel pipe and pressure set at 6 bar. Wrap & Seal Pipe Burst Tape and SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage then seal the leak in under 30 minutes.

The water company approved SylWrap Pipe Repair Contractor Cases for use on their network as a result of the demo.

Live Leak Pinhole Repair using Wrap & Seal

Wrap & Seal makes a live leak repair to a 3mm pinhole in a stainless steel test rig pipe at Sylmasta HQ.

One 50mm x 4m Wrap & Seal was stretched and wrapped around the leak area whilst the pipe remained pressurised.

The tape self-amalgamated to form a solid rubber band over the hole. Pressure was increased after the repair to 5 bar with Wrap & Seal still containing pipe content.

No Pressure 3mm Pinhole Leak Pipe Repair

A SylWrap Standard Pipe Repair Kit seals a 3mm pinhole in a 100mm stainless steel test pipe with pressure off in product testing at Sylmasta HQ.

Superfast Epoxy Putty was kneaded by hand and applied over the hole. The putty cured within 10 minutes to seal the leak.

The repair area is then overwrapped with SylWrap HD. SylWrap provides a rock-hard, impact resistant layer of protection.

SylPad used to make a pressure live leak pipe repair

Increasing Live Leak Pressure Resistance

Demonstration video showing SylPad increasing the pressure resistance of Wrap & Seal during a live leak repair to a 7.2mm hole in a 450mm steel pipe operating at 3 bar.

Such a repair without SylPad would require four 50mm x 4m tapes. SylPad reduces the requirement to one tape.

With two further 50mm x 4m Wrap & Seals added, the completed repair holds 9 bar pressure using just three tapes.

SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage used to reinforce a 100mm steel pipe which had undergone a leak repair after developing a 3mm pinhole

Pipe Reinforcement Using SylWrap HD

SylWrap HD reinforces a 100mm stainless steel pipe which underwent earlier leak sealing with Wrap & Seal.

Applying SylWrap HD over the initial sealant material protects the repair by forming a rock-hard outer shell.

SylWrap HD also strengthens and protects pipework by increasing outer wall thickness and providing a shield against corrosion and chemical attack.

Pipe Protection Against Impact and Abrasion

SylShield Abrasion Resistant Pipe Wrap is made with a fabric which is three times the thickness of standard SylWrap HD.

This demonstration video shows how the extra thickness builds more robust protection for pipelines in harsh environments like quarries or offshore against impact, wear and scarring.

Wrapping a pipe or weld in SylShield prevents damage during intense trenchless installation methods.

Super Conformable Repair Using SylWrap SC

SylWrap SC Pipe Repair Bandage is made from a special knitted fabric with an open weave – offering greater flexibility than the high-density, rigid fibres of SylWrap HD.

It allows SylWrap SC to better conform around difficult pipe shapes, fit into crevices and encapsulate challenging joints.

This video shows the uniformity of SylWrap SC when wrapped around a step joint, an elbow and a bulky Wrap & Seal repair.

CrackSeal Pipe Sealant is used to fix a crack in a cast iron pipe

Longitudinal Split in Case Iron Pipe Repair

CrackSeal Pipe Sealant and SylWrap HD seal a 450mm longitudinal split cut into a cast iron demonstration piece.

After extrusion into the crack, CrackSeal skins instantly to seal the split. The fast-working resin in SylWrap HD completes the repair in under 15 minutes.

A bucket of water tipped into the pipe afterwards shows no sign of leakage, showcasing the repair strength.

90-Degree Elbow Repair at 3 Bar Pressure

Sylmasta demonstrate Wrap & Seal making a live leak repair to a 90-degree elbow bend on a section of pipe where it would be impossible to fit a repair clamp.

A pinhole leak was drilled into the inside elbow of a steel test pipe and pressure set at 3 bar.

Wrap & Seal conforms easily around the elbow, forming a repair tested afterwards to withstand up to 10 bar.

CrackSeal Pipe Sealant will repair a cast iron pipe with resistance to 10 bar pressure even when water is leaking through

Cast Iron Pipe Repair With Water Leaking

Product testing at Sylmasta HQ assesses the live leak repair capability and pressure resistance of CrackSeal.

A horizontal split in a cast iron pipe undergoes successful sealing even with a steady stream of water leaking through.

24 hours later and the repair undergoes pressure testing, withstanding up to 10 bar. The pipe is then giving further strength and reinforcement by wrapping with SylWrap HD.

Live leak pipe repair made to a 150mm steel pipe using no wraps or repair clamp

Live Leak Repair Using No Wraps or Clamps

Demonstration video showing how to seal a 5 bar live leak on a 150mm steel pipe without using tapes, wraps or clamps.

Superfast Aqua PW Epoxy Putty bonds a PVC threaded pipe fitting over the leak. Screwing a valve onto the fitting then taps off the leak, containing pipe content.

Sylmasta devised this repair method for making online repairs to vast water pipes in Malaysia where wrapping was impossible.

Live Leak Repair to UPVC Pipe Step Joint

The maintenance team at Bahrain International Airport repair a leaking 100mm UPVC pipe step joint with pressure on.

Because the pipe was part of a critical system, it could not be shutdown for repair or replacement.

Wrap & Seal and SylWrap HD from a Contractor Case kept on-site at the airport encompassed the entire step in a repair taking under 30 minutes.

Flange Leak Repair Using Superfast Aqua PW

Demonstration video showing a live leak flange repair using Superfast Aqua PW and a metal valve fitting.

Superfast Aqua PW has very high wet surface adhesion, enabling it to bond a valve onto the pipe even with water leaking out and saturating the surface.

This channels the leak path directly through the valve. Tapping off the fitting seals the leak by containing pipe content.

Liquid Metal Epoxy Coating can be used to protect a ppe against corrosion by creating an external shield

Pipe Refurbishment and Corrosion Protection

Sylmasta refurbish a carbon steel barrel to show how Liquid Metal Epoxy Coating protects pipework against corrosion.

A 1mm thick coating is painted onto the steel. It cures to form a hard-wearing, smooth, outer metal barrier shielding the original substrate from attack.

Applying multiple coatings enhances protection levels by increasing the thickness of the Liquid Metal shield.

Threaded Pipe Joint Repair Resistant to 10 Bar

Instructional video showing a repair method formulated for a client to seal a threaded pipe joint in a system with maximum operating pressure of 10 bar whilst water leaked through.

Wrap & Seal removes step from the joint and exerts elastic force to push Superfast Steel Epoxy Putty deep into the thread.

Tape and putty together provide a belts-and-braces approach, cutting off all leak paths for a permanent, high pressure repair.

AB Original Epoxy Putty used alongside Fibreglass Tape to reinforce a section of weakened pipe

Strengthening Small Areas of Weakened Pipe

A client asked Sylmasta to formulate a repair method to quickly strengthen small areas of pipework left weakened by external factors like corrosion or chemicals.

This demonstration video shows AB Original Epoxy Putty and Fibreglass Tape increasing outer pipe wall thickness by 10mm.

The repair also creates a chemically resistant shield over the metalwork to protect against future attack.
