Pipe Repair Videos

The following videos show products from the SylWrap Leak Repair Range and the Sylmasta Pipe Refurbishment System in action both in the field and at Sylmasta HQ in West Sussex, England.

No formal training is required to repair, reinforce or strengthen a leaking or weakened pipe using Sylmasta products. Simply follow the instructions provided or watch one of these videos to see how they are applied and worked.

SylWrap Leak Repair Kits and the SPRS are used in applications from large-scale industrial pipeline repairs to domestic plumbing applications. They are effective on almost all pipe substrates, diameters and to complex shapes, including elbows, tees and step joints.

Repairs can be built which are pressure resistance to 30 bar, temperature resistant to 120ÂșC and offer excellent resistance against corrosion and chemical attack.

Most products in the SylWrap range have WRAS approval, meaning they are certified to British standards as safe to use with drinking water.

High Pressure Live Leak Repair to Split in Steel Pipe

Demonstration at a UK water company, showcasing how a SylWrap Live Leak Repair can be made in under 30 minutes.

A split was cut into a 150mm steel pipe and pressure set at 6 bar. A Sylmasta technician sealed the leak using Wrap & Seal Pipe Burst Tape and SylWrap Pipe Repair Bandage.

As a result of this demo, the water company approved the use of SylWrap Contractor Cases for use on their network.

No Pressure 3mm Pinhole Leak Pipe Repair

Video filmed at Sylmasta HQ of a SylWrap Standard Pipe Repair Kit sealing a 3mm pinhole on a 100mm stainless steel pipe under no pressure.

Superfast Epoxy Putty was kneaded by hand and pushed into the hole. The putty cured within 10 minutes to seal the leak.

The repair area was then overwrapped with SylWrap Bandage, providing a rock-hard, impact resistant layer of protection.

Live Leak 3mm Pinhole Repair using Wrap & Seal

Wrap & Seal makes a live leak repair to a 3mm pinhole in a 100mm 316L stainless steel pipe at Sylmasta HQ.

Pressure was set to 3 bar. One 25mm x 2m Wrap & Seal was stretched by the maximum three times its length and wrapped around the leak area.
As wrapped, the self-amalgamating silicone Tape fused to form a solid rubber band, comfortably holding the pressure of the pipe.

SylPad used to make a pressure live leak pipe repair

Increasing Live Leak Repair Pressure Resistance

Demonstration video showing SylPad increasing the pressure resistance of Wrap & Seal during a live leak repair to a 7.2mm hole in a 450mm steel pipe operating at 3 bar.

Such a repair without SylPad would require four 50mm x 4m Tapes. Using SylPad, the leak was sealed with one Tape.

With two further tapes added, the completed repair was capable of holding 9 bar pressure.

Pipe Reinforcement Using SylWrap Bandage

SylWrap Pipe Repair Bandage reinforces a 100mm 316L stainless steel pipe sealed with Wrap & Seal on a demonstration test rig at Sylmasta HQ.

Applying SylWrap over an initial leak sealant material protects the repair by forming a rock-hard outer shell.

SylWrap also strengthens pipework by increasing hoop strength and protecting against corrosion and chemical attack.

Live leak pipe repair made to a 150mm steel pipe using no wraps or repair clamp

Live Leak Repair Using No Wraps or Clamps

Demonstration video sealing a 5 bar live leak on a 150mm steel pipe without using any tapes, wraps or clamps.

Superfast Aqua PW Epoxy Putty bonds a PVC threaded pipe fitting over the leak. Once the putty has hardened, a valve is screwed onto the fitting to contain the leak.

This repair method was initially developed for fixing vast water pipes in Malaysia which could not be wrapped.

Live Leak Repair to Pipe Step Joint

Video filmed at Bahrain International Airport of a maintenance team repairing a leaking step joint with pipe pressure on.

The 100mm UPVC pipe could not be shutdown for repair or replacement because it was part of a critical system at the airport, necessitating a live leak repair.

Products from a SylWrap Contractor Case were used to encompass the entire step, sealing the leak in under 30 minutes.

Superfast Aqua PW Epoxy Putty bonds a valve to a flange plate to seal a pipe leak

Flange Leak Repair Using Superfast Aqua PW

Demonstration video showing how to repair a leaking pipe flange where pressure is on using Superfast Aqua PW Epoxy Putty.

Superfast Aqua PW has very high wet surface adhesion, enabling it to permanently bond a valve onto the leaking flange.

The leak path is now channelled directly through the valve, which is tapped off to seal the leak and contain pipe content.
