SylWrap Pipe Repair Calculator App
The SylWrap Pipe Repair Calculator App is an easy-to-use app which helps determine the most suitable products and the quantities required for a specific application based on user-submitted repair data.
It consists of five different calculators:
- Pipe Repair Calculator formulates the optimum repair when using the four-stage SylWrap Pipe Refurbishment System to rebuild leaking, weakened and degraded pipelines back towards specification.
- Wrapping Calculator determines the number of SylWrap Pipe Repair Bandages or SylShield needed to reinforce pipework based on diameter and repair length.
- Wrap & Seal Calculator calculates the size of Wrap & Seal Pipe Burst Tape and quantity to make a live leak repair to a specified pressure resistance.
- Coverage Calculator determines the quantity of protective epoxy coating needed to cover a specific pipe, cylinder or surface area.
- ASME PCC-2 Compliant Pipe Repair Calculator is a more thorough calculator which helps calculate the products and quantities needed to make an ASME PCC-2 standard composite pipe repair.
The SylWrap Pipe Repair Calculator App also contains a Quality Control Form (ASME PCC-2 Compliant). Filling in the form helps ensure all critical hold points are identified and the installation process is properly followed.
In addition, there is an option at the bottom of each calculator offering to send the full repair requirements to both your email and Sylmasta. This allows Sylmasta to analyse your repair and if requested, offer further technical assistance.

How to use each calculator on the SylWrap Pipe Repair App
Pipe Repair Calculator (SylWrap Pipe Refurbishment System)
The Pipe Repair Calculator (SylWrap Pipe Refurbishment System) formulates the optimum repair when using the four-stage SylWrap Pipe Refurbishment System to rebuild leaking, weakened and degraded pipelines back towards specification.
Enter the diameter of the pipe, the length of pipework needing repair, the operating pressure of the line and the required safety factor. The safety factor is a multiple to include a margin of safety. For example, if pipe pressure is 5 bar and you want a safety factor of two, the calculator will formulate a repair capable of withstanding 10 bar.
Providing information about the pipe condition determines the products and their quantities. If the pipe is leaking, the calculator recommends the best sealant. Where a pipe surface needs rebuilding or reprofiling because of exterior damage, the calculator determines the quantity of epoxy paste. If the user wants to provide corrosion protection via an epoxy coating, they can include Liquid Metal in the application.
For stage four, the calculator will show the recommended size of SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandages to complete the application. To see the repair requirements for a specific SylWrap HD, SylWrap SC Super Conformable Pipe Repair Bandage or SylShield Abrasion Resistant Wrap, select Change SylWrap Size. This will display a dropdown list of all bandages. The calculator can then determine the number of that specific wrap needed.
Wrapping Calculator (SylWrap / SylShield coverage)
The Wrapping Calculator (SylWrap / SylShield coverage) can help determine the optimum SylWrap HD repair when reinforcing or strengthening a pipeline.
Enter the diameter of the pipe in millimetres, the length of the area requiring wrapping and the operating pressure of the pipeline. The safety factor is a multiple to include a margin of safety. For example, if pipe pressure is 5 bar and you want a safety factor of two, the calculator will formulate a repair capable of withstanding 10 bar.
Once data is entered, the calculator will show the number of layers recommended for the application, how many SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandages are required and the estimated repair thickness in millimetres.
To see the repair requirements for a specific SylWrap HD, SylWrap SC Super Conformable Pipe Repair Bandage or SylShield Abrasion Resistant Wrap, select Change SylWrap Size. This will display a dropdown list of all bandages. The calculator can then determine the number of that specific wrap needed.
It is also possible to calculate the number of SylWrap HD, SylWrap SC or SylShield based on how many layers are desired. The Change Layers option enables the user to input the number of layers they wish to wrap. One SylWrap HD or SC Bandage is approximately 0.45mm thick. One SylShield Wrap is 1.2mm thick.
Wrap & Seal Calculator (Pipe Burst Tape)
The Wrap & Seal Calculator (Pipe Burst Tape) recommends the number of Wrap & Seal Pipe Burst Tapes required to seal a live leak based on pipe diameter and pressure.
Enter the diameter of the pipe in millimetres, water pressure and the size of the hole requiring sealing in millimetres. The safety factor is a multiple to include a margin of safety. For example, if pipe pressure is 5 bar and you want a safety factor of two, the calculator will formulate a repair capable of withstanding 10 bar.
Once data is entered, selecting the size of Wrap & Seal determines how many of that specific tape are required for a repair. Repairs to pipes in excess of 150mm diameter with Wrap & Seal PB-50x4m or PB-50x11m should be made in conjunction with SylPad.Pressure Resistance Multiplier.
Calculations serve as a guide to potential maximum pressure resistance only. Actual pressure resistance depends upon pipe material, condition, hole size, leak type and tension maintained during wrapping. If you are unsure, use more than one Wrap & Seal to stop the leak
Coverage Calculator (Liquid Metal, Ceramic Brushable, WearShield)
The Coverage Calculator (Liquid Metal, Ceramic Brushable, WearShield) determines the quantity of epoxy coating needed to protect a specific pipe or cylinder based on outside diameter and repair area.
Select Liquid Metal or Ceramic Brushable as your product. Liquid Metal offers greater protection against corrosion and chemical attack. Ceramic Brushable contains silicon carbide and therefore sets harder wearing. It is more suitable for protection against abrasion, wear and impact.
Next select whether you are coating a pipe or a cylinder. Enter the diameter of the pipe or cylinder and the length of the area requiring protection. Then select the desired thickness of the protective layer provided by Liquid Metal. After receiving all data, the calculator will recommend the amount of epoxy coating needed in kilograms.
Pipe Repair Calculator (ASME PCC-2 Compliant)
The Pipe Repair Calculator (ASME PCC-2 Compliant) is a more thorough calculator which helps determine the products and quantities needed to make an ASME PCC-2 standard composite pipe repair. It makes calculations for leak repair, reprofiling, protective coating and SylWrap composite wrapping when given the data and design of a specific repair.
Also available on the Calculator is a Quality Control Form (ASME PCC-2 Compliant). Filling in the form helps identify all critical hold points and ensures the installation process is properly followed.
