SylWrap Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit

The SylWrap Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit is a specialist kit for sealing cracked and leaking cast iron pipework where there is no pressure.

It enables permanent repair in under 30 minutes to exterior or interior drain, waste, soil and supply pipes between 32mm and 150mm (1¼ – 6″) – matching standard cast iron pipe sizes. It also repairs guttering and rainwater stacks.

Repairs are pressure resistant to 30 bar and temperature resistant to 200ºC. Effective repairs can be made around difficult elbow joints and other challenging sections, offering a flexible alternative to heavy, bulky pipe repair clamps.

Fixing a leaking pipe with a Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit costs a fraction of carrying out a pipe replacement. The Kit is suitable for domestic and industrial use and no operational training is required – simply follow the instructions provided.

How to fix leaking cast iron pipework with a SylWrap Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit

The SylWrap Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit contains Superfast Steel Epoxy Putty, CrackSeal Sealant and a SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage for a two-stage repair process.

Superfast Steel is an epoxy putty in a pre-formatted stick. It seals small holes and areas of damage.

It is kneaded by hand until it turns a uniform colour. It is then pushed into holes and cracks in pipework whilst soft, where it will harden within 5-10 minutes to seal the leak.

CrackSeal is used for large cracks and longitudinal splits. It is extruded from its cartridge using a standard sealant gun (not supplied with the Kit) directly into the crack until it is totally filled. CrackSeal cures almost instantly, even on wet surfaces.

The initial sealant is then reinforced with SylWrap HD Bandage. Wetting the bandage activates the resin. The bandage is wrapped around and smoothed over the pipe. It will set within 5 minutes to provide a rock-hard, impact-resistant, protective layer.

Both Superfast Steel and SylWrap HD have WRAS Approval, meaning they are certified as safe to use on pipes carrying drink water. CrackSeal does not have WRAS Approval and cannot be used with potable water.

CrackSeal Sealant and SylWrap HD seal 450mm split in cast iron pipe

The products in the SylWrap Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit are used to seal a 450mm split in a cast iron pipe as part of a demonstration filmed at Sylmasta HQ.

CrackSeal Sealant was extruded directly into the crack and smoothed off using a spatula before it fully hardened. SylWrap HD was then wrapped down the length of the pipe to reinforce the repair.

When a bucket of water was poured into the pipe after the application, nothing leaked through – showcasing the strength of the repair.
