Titanium Supergrade High Temperature
Pipe Repair Epoxy Paste
Titanium Supergrade HT is an alloy-reinforced epoxy paste with very high compressive strength and extreme temperature resistance formulated for the repair, rebuilding and reprofiling of pipe systems exposed to conditions up to a maximum 250°C.
It has a three-hour work time which allows for more careful application even at higher ambient temperatures. Having confidence the epoxy paste will not cure off prematurely eliminates the need to rush. This makes it more suitable for larger, complicated repairs.
Applying Titanium Supergrade HT to pipework left degraded by corrosion, chemical attack or other environmental factors increases the outer wall thickness to restore strength and return the line back to original specification.
It also fills damage caused by pitting and impact, creating a smooth pipe surface. It removes step from joints and changes difficult angles. These processes improve the pipe for wrapping, as well as providing full contact and load spreading between the pipe and composite wrap.
Titanium Supergrade HT is effective on most metals and plastics. It is reinforced with corrosion resistant platelets, giving it an ultra smooth finish and high chemical resistance.
How to repair and protect pipework using Titanium Supergrade HT
Titanium Supergade HT is a two-part epoxy paste which the user mixes and applies using a filling knife or other similar hand tool.
The pipework undergoing repair should be clean and free of paint, rust and grime. Roughening up the pipe either through grit blasting or grinding with a coarse wheel or abrasive disk pad improves adhesion.
Titanium Supergrade HT is applied immediately after preparation. The user mixes Part A and Part B at a 3:1 ratio on a clean, flat surface. The two contrasting colours blend into a uniform grey to indicate successful mixing.
The user then spreads the epoxy paste over the area requiring reprofiling using the filling knife, pushing Titanium Supergrade HT firming into the pipework to ensure maximum surface contact and avoid trapping air.
Full instructions for surface preparation and how to apply Titanium Supergrade HT come with the product and are available on the TDS.
Titanium Supergrade HT has a work time of 180 minutes. When building multiple layers, it has a re-coat time of between four and six hours. It achieves a functional cure in 16 hours and a full cure with maximum properties in 24 hours.
Post-curing Titanium Supergrade HT for high temperature pipe repair
Like all high temperature epoxy systems, Titanium Supergrade HT should be post-cured to enable secondary cross-linking and achievement of maximum temperature resistance. Full post-curing instructions also come with the product and are available on the TDS.
If post-cured, the continuous temperature resistance of Titanium Supergrade HT is 200°C. It then withstands intermittent temperatures up to 250°C.
Once cured, Titanium Supergrade HT can be tapped, drilled, screwed, sawed, machined, ground, filed or painted to create a seamless finish uniform with the pipe undergoing repair.
It has an extremely light consistency, making it easier to mix than stiffer epoxy pastes. It is virtually odourless with no unpleasant smell and it is also thixotropic so will not sag.
Reinforcement with SylWrap Composite Bandage
Sylmasta recommend reinforcing pipe repairs made with Titanium Supergrade HT by overwrapping the epoxy paste whilst it remains tacky with a SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage.
SylWrap HD is a water-activated composite wrap. It sets rock-hard in minutes to form an impact resistant layer of protection covering Industrial Metal, strengthening the repair by further increasing the outer thickness of the pipe.
Titanium Supergrade Hight Temperature Pipe Repair Epoxy Paste Applications
- Rebuilding areas of high temperature pipework weakened by corrosion, chemical attack and other environmental factors to bring them back to original specification
- Strengthening and reinforcing pipelines in petrochemical plants and other harsh environments
- Filling in and smoothing out large areas of surface damage caused by pitting and impact damage
- Reprofiling pipes by removing step from joints and other difficult shapes
- Relining worn areas in pumps and valves
Benefits of Titanium Supergrade HT Epoxy Paste
- Very high compressive strength and temperature resistance
- Easy to use – mix the amount of paste required and apply using a hand tool
- Three-hour work time enables more careful application without rushing from fear the paste will cure off prematurely – even at higher ambient temperatures
