Industrial Metal Epoxy Repair Paste

Industrial Metal is an epoxy paste reinforced with corrosion-resistant metal platelets used to repair, reinforce and strengthen large areas of damaged pipework.

Where corrosion, chemical attack or other environmental factors have weakened the exterior of a pipe, Industrial Metal is applied to rebuild wall thickness. It fills in damage caused by impact and pitting, restoring surface profile and returning degraded pipelines to original specification.

The high chemical and corrosion resistance of Industrial Metal make it ideal for aggressive environments. Petrochemical plants use Industrial Metal to strengthen and protect pipelines, and it has relined worn areas in pumps, valves and associated equipment across a variety of sectors.

Industrial Metal is effective on pipes made of steel, iron, copper, PVC plastic and GRP. It cures on wet surfaces and underwater. It has an extremely light consistency, making it easier to mix than stiffer epoxy pastes. It is virtually odourless and it is thixotropic so will not sag.

A 60 minute gel time allows for large quantities of Industrial Metal to be mixed and greater coverage of surfaces without the threat of premature curing. Sylmasta recommend Industrial Metal for applications in hot climates and at higher ambient temperatures.

Industrial Metal has been independently tested to BS 6920 standard, meaning that when used in conjunction with a SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage it is certified to British standards as safe to use on pipes carrying drinking water.

How to reinforce pipework using Industrial Metal Epoxy Paste

Before the application of Industrial Metal, surfaces should be free of paint, rust and grime. Pipework should also be roughened up through either grit blasting or grinding with a coarse wheel or abrasive disk pad.

Industrial Metal should be applied as soon as possible after the preparation procedure is completed. Part A and Part B are mixed together in the instructed ratio.

A putty knife is used to spread the epoxy paste over the area requiring repair, pressing it firmly into the pipework to ensure maximum surface contact and avoid trapping air.

As soon as Industrial Metal has been applied, a SylWrap Bandage should be applied over the top. SylWrap will provide a rock-hard, impact resistant layer of protection over the repair area, further strengthening the weakened section of pipe.

Industrial Metal has a gel time of 60 minutes. It achieves a full cure in 24 hours. Full instructions detailing surface preparation and application method are included with the product.
