Industrial Metal Epoxy Repair Paste

Industrial Metal is an epoxy paste reinforced with corrosion-resistant metal platelets for the repair of large areas of damage caused to pipework by corrosion and chemical attack.

It is applied to pipes made of steel, iron, copper, PVC plastic, and GRP to fill in damage and pitting caused by corrosion and provide a chemically resistant layer of protection to the pipe. Industrial Metal cures on wet surfaces and underwater.

The high chemical resistance of Industrial Metal makes it ideal for repair and maintenance in aggressive environments. Petrochemical plants use it to strengthen and protect pipelines, and it has been used to reline worn areas in pumps, valves and associated equipment across a variety of sectors.

Industrial Metal has an extremely light consistency, making it easier to mix than stiffer epoxy sticks and pastes. It is virtually odourless and it is thixotropic so will not sag.

A 60 minute gel time allows for large quantities of Epoxy Paste to be mixed and greater coverage of surfaces without the threat of premature curing. Sylmasta recommend Industrial Metal to clients operating in hot climates because of its cure time.

Industrial Metal has been independently tested to BS 6920 standard, meaning that when used in conjunction with a SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage it is certified to British standards as safe to use on pipes carrying drinking water.

How to repair pipe damage using Industrial Metal Epoxy Paste

Before the application of Industrial Metal Epoxy Repair Paste, surfaces should be free of paint, rust and grime. Pipework should also be roughened up through either grit blasting or grinding with a coarse wheel or abrasive disk pad.

Industrial Metal should be applied as soon as possible after the preparation procedure is completed. Part A and Part B are mixed together in the instructed ratio.

A putty knife is used to spread the epoxy paste over the area requiring repair, pressing it firmly into the pipework to ensure maximum surface contact and avoid trapping air.

Industrial Metal should be overwrapped with a SylWrap Pipe Repair Bandage, which will provide a rock provide a rock-hard, impact resistant layer to the initial damage repair.
