CrackSeal is a moisture-curing sealant which can fix a crack or longitudinal split in a cast iron, steel or concrete-lined pipe in under 15 minutes. When overwrapped with a SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage, a permanent and reinforced repair is created.

Before application, the repair area is cleaned using Non-Flammable Degreaser. This improves the bond between the pipe surface and CrackSeal.

A standard sealant gun is used to apply CrackSeal. It is extruded directly into the split or crack until totally filled. Excess CrackSeal is smoothed before it fully hardens with a spatula or similar tool dipped in water containing a little detergent.

CrackSeal will skin in 10 minutes, sealing the crack in the pipework. Once set, the pipe is further reinforced by using SylWrap HD to provide a thick, robust outer shell.

SylWrap HD is a composite repair wrap with a water activated resin. Wearing gloves, the bandage is removed from the pouch. It is dipped in water for around five seconds, activating the resin.

The wetted SylWrap is applied to the pipe with a 50 percent overlap. Within a few minutes, it hardens into a rock-hard, impact resistant layer of protection encompassing the pipe. Once the bandage has set, the repair is completed.

In the above demonstration video, SylWrap was only wrapped over the bottom half of the repair. This was to show no leakage through the CrackSeal even where SylWrap was not present when the repair was tested by pouring a bucket of water into the pipe.

When CrackSeal and SylWrap HD are used in the field, the entire area covering the crack or split in the pipe would be reinforced with the bandage for a permanent, high pressure repair.

CrackSeal is supplied in a 310ml cartridge. One cartridge fills approximately one metre of cracked pipework based on a 10mm wide split.

The crack in the cast iron demonstration piece used for the video was 450mm long, requiring a little under half the CrackSeal cartirdge.

CrackSeal and SylWrap HD can be purchased together as part of the SylWrap Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit. The Kit also contains Superfast Steel Epoxy Putty, enabling the user to seal holes as well as longitudinal splits.
