SylShield Abrasion Resistant Pipe Wrap is three times the thickness of a standard SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage for ultimate protection against impact damage and scarring.

It provides high abrasion resistance for pipes and welds during horizontal directional drilling. It also prevents impact damage where pipelines are buried in trenches.

Where pipes are subject to intense trenchless pipe installation methods like auger boring, impact moling and microtunnelling, applying SylShield avoids the need for pipeline repair after pull back.

The extra thickness of SylShield also builds more significant layers of protection more quickly with less wrapping.

This is useful in industries like mining, quarries and onshore and offshore pipelines, where the shell provided by a composite wrap needs to be stronger and more robust.

Applying SylShield Abrasion Resistant Pipe Wrap for impact protection

Dipping SylShield in water for around 10 seconds activates the resin and allows water to fully infiltrate the bandage.

The user applies SylShield by wrapping once around the pipe and then continuing along the entire area requiring protection with a 50 percent overlap. Adding additional water as the wrapping process continues assists with curing.

Overwrapping SylShield with a stretch film as it cures helps contain the resin within the bandage. Because gasses form during this process within the wrap, the stretch film needs pricking with a roller or any other sharp object. This allows these gasses to escape.

After removing the stretch film, SylShield leaves behind a rock-hard protective layer several millimetres thick. The pipe now has full protection against even the most intense installation processes.
