SylWrap CR Corrosion Protection Wrap

SylWrap CR Corrosion Protection Wrap is a composite repair wrap infused with corrosion inhibitors to protect pipes and structures in harsh, aggressive environments against substrate corrosion.

Applying SylWrap CR to pipes, steel structures, metal piles and concrete pillars prevents saltwater and environmental corrosion from occurring in marine environments. Application can take place underwater.

In testing, metalwork wrapped in SylWrap CR and subjected to 1,000 hours of saltwater exposure returned corrosion free when the protection bandage was removed.

SylWrap CR is also used to protect pipes and metal parts against abrasive wear in gravel and sand plants, quarries, sugar mills, gran hoppers and coal chutes.

The fast-working resin infused in SylWrap CR begins to cure within minutes, allowing for rapid repairs to be made. Unlike other moisture cured repair wraps, SylWrap CR contains less than 0.1% free diisocyanate.

This means it is not covered by the 2023 EU and UK REACH legislation governing the safe use of diisocyanates and requires no mandatory safety training before use. At the same time, the low hazard formulation offers reduced risk to operators.

SylWrap CR is effective up to 120ºC, resists pressure up to 30 bar and can be applied in under 30 minutes, setting rock-hard to form a permanent, impact-resistant protective layer.


How to protect against corrosion using SylWrap CR Corrosion Protection Wrap

SylWrap CR is easy to use. For dry applications, dip the Wrap in water to activate the resin. For protecting marine structures, no prior preparation is needed as the Wrap will be activated as soon as it comes into contact with water.

Once wetted, the Wrap is applied to the pipe requiring protection from corrosion. In order to achieve the recommended coverage of five layers of SylWrap CR, the first layer should be wrapped so that the overlap with each wrap is approximately 5mm.

The subsequent two wraps can be applied with a 50% overlap to provide a total of five layers. As an alternative, and if necessary, apply all three layers of SylWrap CR with a 50% overlap to achieve six layers in total.

SylWrap CR has a work time of 2-5 minutes. A functional cure is achieved in 30 minutes and a full cure with maximum properties in 24 hours.
