SylWrap CR Corrosion Protection Wrap

SylWrap CR Corrosion Protection Wrap is a water-activated composite wrap infused with corrosion inhibitors for ultimate protection of pipes and structures against external substrate corrosion in harsh, aggressive environments.

Applying SylWrap CR to pipes, steel structures, metal piles and concrete pillars prevents saltwater and environmental corrosion from occurring in marine environments. SylWrap CR application can take directly place underwater with no surface preparation.

In testing, metalwork wrapped in SylWrap CR and subject to 1,000 hours of saltwater exposure returned corrosion free after removal of the protective bandage.

SylWrap CR also protects pipes and metalwork from abrasion and wear in gravel and sand plants, quarries, sugar mills, grain hoppers and coal chutes.

The fast working resin in SylWrap CR sets within minutes. As a result, it is quick to apply across large surface areas requiring protection without needing tools or systems shutting down.

SylWrap CR is temperature resistant to 250°C. As well as metal and concrete, it will protect pipes and structures made from most plastics, GRP, ceramic, clay, concrete, rubber and lead.

About

How to protect against corrosion using SylWrap CR Corrosion Protection Wrap

SylWrap CR is easy to use. Dipping the bandage into water activates the resin. When applying underwater, the resin activates as soon as it comes into contact with water. The user then wraps SylWrap CR around the pipework or structure.

To achieve the recommended coverage of five layers, wrap the first layer so that the overlap with each wrap around is approximately 5mm.

The subsequent two wraps are applied with a 50 percent overlap to provide a total of five layers. As an alternative, apply all three layers of SylWrap CR with a 50 percent overlap to achieve six layers in total.

Further water smooths the bandage down as the application continues, ensuring SylWrap CR conforms tightly to the pipe.

SylWrap CR has a work time of 2-5 minutes. It achieves a functional cure in 30-45 minutes and a full cure with maximum properties in 24 hours.

Sylmasta make all their own composite pipe repair and protection bandages at their world-leading production facility in the United Kingdom.

This guarantees fresh product, a reliable supply chain and reduced lead times. It also means Sylmasta can produce customised wraps based on client needs.

Sylmasta have previously manufactured different coloured bandages to better disguise repairs and composite wraps with slower-setting resin for use in hot climates. If you require specialist bandages for a specific application, please contact Sylmasta.

Repair Calculator

SylWrap CR Corrosion Protection Wrap Repair Calculator

The below Wrapping Calculator (SylWrap / SylShield coverage) can help determine the optimum SylWrap CR repair when protecting a pipeline against corrosion.

Enter the diameter of the pipe in millimetres, the length of the area requiring wrapping and the operating pressure of the pipeline. The safety factor is a multiple to include a margin of safety. For example, if pipe pressure is 5 bar and you want a safety factor of two, the calculator will formulate a repair capable of withstanding 10 bar.

Once data is entered, the calculator will show the number of layers recommended for the application, how many SylWrap Bandages are required and the estimated repair thickness in millimetres. Although the calculator displays SylWrap HD sizes, these are applicable to SylWrap CR. For example, where the calculator recommends a SYL309HD Bandage, a SYL309CR is used.

To see the repair requirements for a specific SylWrap Bandage size, select Change SylWrap Size. This will display a dropdown list of all bandages. The calculator can then determine the number of that specific SylWrap Bandage needed based on the repair data entered.

It is also possible to calculate the number of SylWrap based on how many layers are desired. The Change Layers option enables the user to input the number of layers they wish to wrap. Sylmasta recommend at least five layers of SylWrap CR. One SylWrap CR Wrap is approximately 0.45mm thick.

Calculations serve only as an initial guide and judgement should be made on the exact repair based upon all conditions.
