CrackSeal is a moisture-curing pipe sealant which will repair a crack or longitudinal split in cast iron, steel or concrete lined pipework – even when water is leaking through at low pressure.

A standard sealant gun is used to extrude CrackSeal directly into the spilt or crack requiring repair until it is totally filled. CrackSeal will begin to hard almost instantly, containing the live leak and preventing water from seeping through.

It will form a skin in 10 minutes. Any excess CrackSeal is smoothed off before this happens using a spatula or similar tool dipped into water containing a little detergent.

CrackSeal will reach maximum properties after 24 hours. Overwrapping CrackSeal with a SylWrap HD Pipe Repair Bandage at any point after application creates a reinforced, permanent repair.

SylWrap HD is a composite wrap with a water activated resin. It is wrapped and smoothed around a pipe, where it will cure within minutes to form a rock-hard, impact resistant layer of protection.

The above demonstration video was filmed at Sylmasta HQ to showcase the capability of CrackSeal to seal a cast iron pipe with water leaking through and test the pressure resistance of the repair.

A horizontal split was cut into a test rig and pressure set so that a steady stream of water was leaking through whilst the repair took place.

Once CrackSeal had repaired the pipe, the sealant was left undisturbed for 24 hours. Pressure was then steadily increased through the pipe up to 10 bar.

No water leaked escaped and there was no deformation of CrackSeal, indicating a successful repair. Applying SylWrap HD after the pressure test further increased the strength and resistance of the repair.

CrackSeal and SylWrap HD can be purchased together as part of the SylWrap Cast Iron Pipe Repair Kit. The Kit also contains Superfast Steel Epoxy Putty, enabling the user to seal holes in pipework where pressure is off as well as longitudinal splits in online pipes.
