Composite Pipe Repair Wrap

Stage 4 of the SylWrap Pipe Refurbishment System

A composite pipe repair wrap provides a final, rock-hard, impact resistant layer of protection up 10mm thick around pipework. It reinforces the previous stages of repair, refurbishes older or worn pipes, and strengthens and extends the lifespan of systems.

The composite layer will usually be provided by a SylWrap Pipe Repair Bandage. SylWrap features a water-activated resin which cures within minutes. To apply, the user simply dips the bandage in water and wraps it around the pipework.

SylWrap HD is a heavy-duty wrap with high density fibres used for general pipe reinforcement and increasing hoop strength. SylWrap CR contains additional corrosion inhibitors. As a result, it offers enhanced protection in marine, underwater and other aggressive environments.

SylWrap SC Super Conformable is made with a special knitted open weave bandage. This makes it as flexible as possible and more effective at tightly encapsulating pipework with complex geometries, like elbows and tees.

SylShield is three times the thickness of SylWrap. It protects pipelines and welds subjected to intense installation processes or operating in the most abrasive of environments. The extreme thickness enables layers of protection to be built more quickly with less wrapping required.

In repairs where wrapping is not possible, an E190 Epoxy Pipe & Tank Repair Kit contains brushable epoxy resin and fibreglass tape for making patch repairs. Strips of fibreglass tape are coated with E190, in effect creating a composite bandage applied in layers rather than wrapping.

Low Hazard Pipe Repair Wrap Resin

In August 2023, EU and UK legislation came into force stipulating end-users of products containing greater than 0.1% free diisocyanates must receive health and safety training before they can handle such products at work.

Sylmasta subsequently formulated a low hazard resin with diisocyanate concentration below 0.1% to fall outside the legislation. All SylWrap products manufactured at Sylmasta’s composite repair production facility can be made with LH resin as per client requirements.

This makes Sylmasta the only company in the world currently manufacturing low free diisocyanate composite repair wraps. LH is a safer, greener and more convenient option. At the same time, it shares a close match to the mechanical properties of standard resin.
